The Evadale Volunteer Fire Department was first organized in May 1959, when East Texas Pulp and Paper Company furnished an International Fire Truck with a 1,000-gallon tank and driver for emergency responses to local fires.  J.B. Stimits was elected as the first president, while Leon Curtis was named as the new department’s first chief. Funding was a continuous struggle. In 1983 under the leadership of Jerome Boutin voters approved the creation of what is today ESD#2. The district was able to levy taxes, and the department was able to upgrade its building and equipment, plus provide better training for the volunteers. In 2025 voters approved a sales tax for the district enabling ESD#2 commissioners to contract with Allegiance Mobile Health to station an ambulance and personal at the fire department twenty-four hours a day seven days a week.  Jasper County ESD#2 and the Evadale VFD remain grateful for the community’s support.
